What Invisalign Is
Invisalign treatment is a series of clear, thermoplastic aligners made specifically for your teeth. Each set makes very small shifts in the position of your teeth. You change to a new set about every two weeks, or as your dentist prescribes. Because the aligners are practically invisible, people usually have to look very closely to notice you are wearing them.
Who Invisalign Can Help
- Teens and adults with crowded or overlapping teeth.
- Patients with gaps between their teeth.
- People with some bite problems, such as mild overbites, depending on the case.
- Anyone who wants a less noticeable alternative to metal braces.
Traditional braces are still more effective for some complex bite problems, so a consultation is important before you decide. Your dentist will explain which option suits you.
How Invisalign Treatment Works
- Consultation: your dentist examines your teeth and gums and talks through your goals and options.
- Records: X-rays and photographs of your mouth and face are taken so your dentist can determine how your teeth should move.
- 3D plan: a 3D simulation shows the step-by-step movement of your teeth from start to finish, so you can see how treatment will go.
- Aligners: your first set of aligners is made, and you receive it a few weeks after your first visit.
- Wearing and changing: you wear each set and move to the next about every two weeks, or as prescribed.
- Check-ins: regular visits let us track progress and make sure everything is on schedule.
- Retainers: after treatment, a retainer helps keep your teeth where they are.
Wearing Your Aligners
Invisalign aligners need to be kept on your teeth for 20 to 22 hours a day. Remove them only to eat and to brush. If you leave them out for too long, they will be less effective, treatment can take longer and you may need extra sets of aligners, which can add to the cost.
Before Your Visit
- Have any cavities or gum issues treated before starting, if your dentist recommends it.
- Think about your goals, such as how quickly you want to finish and what you would like to change.
- Bring your insurance information.
- Write down your questions about cost, timeline and wear.
After Your Treatment, and Between Sets
- Expect some soreness for a few days when you start a new set. Over-the-counter pain relief can help.
- Brush and floss before putting your aligners back in, and clean your aligners as instructed.
- Only drink plain water while wearing aligners, and remove them to eat.
- Keep your spare sets safe, and always bring your latest set to appointments.
- Wear your retainer as instructed after treatment ends.
- Call the clinic if an aligner cracks or is lost, or if you have swelling, fever, lasting pain or bleeding.
Cost, Insurance and Direct Billing

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
It depends on your case. Your dentist will give you an estimated timeline after your exam and 3D plan, and wearing your aligners as directed helps keep treatment on schedule.
Is Invisalign painful?
You may feel pressure or soreness for a few days when you start a new set. This is normal and usually eases quickly.
Can I take my aligners out to eat?
Yes. You should remove them to eat and brush, and wear them 20 to 22 hours a day for the best results.
Is Invisalign right for everyone?
Not always. Traditional braces can be more effective for more complex bite problems. Your dentist will recommend the best option after an exam.
What happens if I lose or break an aligner?
Call us as soon as possible. We handle aligner issues quickly so your treatment stays on track.
Will I need a retainer after Invisalign?
Usually yes. Teeth can shift back toward their old positions, and a retainer helps keep your results.
